Prices and booking

Getting there

The camp stands in the dunes at Tembaïne, in the Douz district of the Kebili governorate, in the Tunisian Sahara. Most guests fly into Tozeur (about 130 km from Douz, 1½ hours by road), Djerba (about 250 km, 3 hours) or Tunis (about 450 km, 5–6 hours) and drive to Douz. We handle the last stretch — about two hours of dune crossing by 4×4 from Douz, which is why the camp feels as remote as it does. Add the Douz ⇄ Tiniri transfer to your booking, or come in your own 4×4.

Questions and answers

How do I book a stay at Tiniri Camp?

You can book directly via WhatsApp, by phone, or by sending us an email. Our team is available 24/7 to assist you with your reservation.

What is the best time to visit?

The ideal season is from October to April when temperatures are pleasant. Summers (June–August) can be extremely hot (50°C+), but we do host guests year-round with appropriate desert preparations.

What is included in the price?

All stays include accommodation, meals (as per your selected plan), welcome tea ceremony, and access to all camp facilities. Activities and transport are optional add-ons.

Is the camp accessible for children and elderly guests?

Yes — our camp and all its facilities are accessible. We offer family tents and can adapt activities to all physical abilities.

What should I pack for the desert?

Light, breathable clothing for daytime; a warm layer for evenings. Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a camera. We provide all bedding and towels.

Is there internet / phone signal at the camp?

Limited signal is available. We intentionally foster a disconnected experience — consider it a digital detox. However, emergency communication is always possible.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 72 hours before arrival. Within 72 hours, a 50% fee applies. No-shows are charged in full. Please contact us as early as possible for any changes.

How much does a night at Tiniri Camp cost?

From 100 TND per person per night. What you finally pay depends on the tent you choose, how many of you share it, your meal plan, the number of nights, and whether you add transport or a gas heater. The pricing simulator gives you the exact figure in a few seconds, with no account and no deposit.

What kinds of tent are there?

Sixty-five tents in three kinds. Canvas — 44 of them, the most of any kind, 4 × 6 m, two to four people. Tunnel — 12, the same size and the same capacity, under an arched roof. Dome — 9, five metres across, two to three people. All three have their own sanitary block and shower, a water heater, lighting and a USB socket. Beyond the tents there is a camping area for bivouac, which uses the shared sanitary block.

Do the tents have a private bathroom?

Yes — all sixty-five of them. Canvas, Tunnel and Dome each have their own sanitary block and shower with a water heater: no shared block, no walk across the camp in the dark. Bedding and towels are provided. The one exception is the camping area, where the bivouac pitches use the camp’s shared showers and WCs.

Does it get cold at night, and are the tents heated?

The desert loses its heat the moment the sun goes. From November to February a day of 20 °C can become a night close to freezing. Heating is available in every tent as a paid supplement — add it to your booking for the coldest months rather than hoping for it on arrival. Bring one warm layer even in spring.

Is there a swimming pool?

There is a pool and a jacuzzi — which is the last thing anyone expects to find in the middle of the Grand Erg Oriental. It is the best place in the camp to spend the hours when the sun is at its highest.

What is there to do at the camp?

Quad bikes (300cc and 500cc), buggies, 4×4 excursions into the dunes, camel rides, dune sledging and sandboarding, trekking, a hot-air balloon over the erg, and team-building days for groups. At the camp itself: the pool and jacuzzi, volleyball, pétanque, a children’s playground, the chill zone and the campfire, the welcome tea ceremony, dinner under the open sky, and afterwards some of the darkest skies in North Africa. Some of these depend on the weather and on availability on the day — the balloon above all, and the longer excursions in high wind — so nothing is guaranteed until we confirm it. The pool, the quads, volleyball and pétanque are always there.

How many nights should I stay?

One night is enough to see a sunset and a sunrise from the dunes, and it is what most first visits are. Two or three gives you the longer excursions, a night in the open, and enough time for the silence to stop being a novelty and start being the point.

What food do you serve, and can you cater for dietary needs?

Traditional Berber cooking, made at the camp from local produce and served by candlelight. Half board covers breakfast and dinner; full board adds lunch. Tell us about allergies, vegetarian or other dietary needs when you book and the kitchen will plan around them.

How does the camp handle safety in the desert?

Douz and the Kebili region are Tunisia’s established desert-tourism area, and the camp is staffed day and night. We drive the route from Douz ourselves, and every excursion goes out with a guide who knows the terrain — nobody is sent into the dunes alone. For entry requirements and current official advice, check your own government’s travel guidance before you travel.

Can you host a group, a wedding or a private event?

Yes. The camp has 65 tents and sleeps more than 250, and it can be privatised in part or in whole. We have hosted team-building days, concerts and music festivals, cinema under the stars, wellness retreats, stargazing nights, desert rallies and weddings. The restaurant seats over 100 and the snack bar takes 80 more. Write to info@tiniricamp.com with your dates and numbers and we will put a proposal together.

When is the Douz Sahara Festival?

The International Sahara Festival of Douz is held in late November or December; the exact dates are announced each year. It is the largest event in the Tunisian desert calendar and the busiest week at the camp — book well ahead if you want to be here for it.
